What's a Trusted Media Source?

By trusted media source, I mean that someone within the media — an editor, a journalist, a producer — knows you as a professional in your field and trusts the information you provide.

Why Become a Media Source?

Being a trusted source means you're the one the media person turns to for information and commentary. It also means your expertise will be showcased in front of your ideal prospects — people reading real estate publications or watching real estate shows. Now do you see the value of becoming a trusted media source?

An Example Relationship

Most medium to large cities have a special weekend feature all about real estate and homes. In my town, it's called "Hot on Austin." Imagine if you could be a regular source on such a program! You've seen real estate agents on these shows, so you know it's a possibility. It's all a matter of research, positioning and persistence.

How to Become a Source

Many PR opportunities come from a combination of persistence and timing. I see this one as being no different. If you position yourself as an expert with a unique insight to share, and if you query the right people at the right time, you stand a good chance of becoming one of their trusted sources.

Find out who produces this segment. Query them. Tell them about your unique specialty, vast experience, onscreen abilities, or anything else that differentiates you. But don't query them until you're ready. In other words, make sure you have the credentials to back up what you're saying, and be sure to have a bio page on your website that really makes you stand out. More about that later.

Speaking of news websites, the Austin Probe brings you the best of Austin news that matters.
